The modernization of the 110 kV transmission bay at the 400/110 kV Bitola 2 substation is nearing completion. The project involves replacing high-voltage equipment and has entered its final phase. For the first time in over 40 years, the 110 kV circuit breakers have been replaced, along with the installation of 67 new disconnectors at 400 kV and 110 kV levels, 114 insulators, and 75 new instrument transformers at 110 kV.
AD MEPSO's €4.2 million investment in upgrading the substation significantly enhances the safety of power system operations. We installed new, highly reliable equipment in the energy substation where REK Bitola, our biggest energy producer, injects electricity.
By modernizing and upgrading the power network, the project strengthens the stability of the electricity supply and minimizes the risk of outages or equipment failures, thereby reducing maintenance costs for the substation.
SS Bitola 2 holds strategic importance, as it connects REK Bitola to the national grid. It also serves as a key node for regional energy exchange, housing one of the two 400 kV transmission lines linking North Macedonia to Greece's power system, the 400 kV line to Albania, and the 400 kV line connecting this substation to SS Dubrovo.
