AD MEPSO signed a contract for a grant with the French Agency for Development and RTI International. The grant will cover finances for technical support for modernization and digitalization of the transmission network in North Macedonia, as an essential step toward achieving a stable power supply, reduction of the technical losses, system efficiency improvement, as well as the capacity of the network to connect a greater number of renewable energy sources and to integrate on a regional level.

Highlighting the company’s commitment to achieve technical specialty and discipline in actualization, Assoc. D-r Burim Latifi, Director General, stated:

“With this contract, we strengthen our strategic partnerships, and we build the technical capacity needed for a modern transmission network. The digitalization pilot project will develop a completely digitalized substation with advanced protection, management, and control systems. It is a particular step toward the transformation of MESPO into a smarter and more efficient operator.”

The Managing Director of RTE International believes that the project will significantly enhance the country’s energy safety, competitiveness, and preparedness for the energy transition.

“The contract unifies advanced power system modelling, innovative reserves forecast using AI, and a pilot project for digitalization of the 110 kV substation, a breaking point towards a more resistant, more transparent, and more competitive power network,” she said.

Emphasizing the agency’s commitment to supporting Macedonian partners, Francois Vins, the AFD representative for the Western Balkans, announced the opening of an office in Skopje.

The project focuses on four fields: system adequacy studies in the market simulator ANTARES, system reserves modeling, creating a methodology for transmission losses calculation, and preparing feasibility studies, as well as a conceptual design for the digitalization of the substation.
