The General Director of AD MEPSO, Mr. Zudi Enuz, and the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Mrs. Odile Renaud-Basso, signed a EUR 26.4 million loan agreement today.
The project focuses on strengthening the transmission network in the southeast of the country and integrating renewable energy sources into the national power system. The loan will fund the construction of a new 400/110 kV substation near the village of Miletkovo, Gevgelija, its connection to the existing 400 kV transmission line from SS Dubrovo to SS Thessaloniki, and the reconstruction and upgrade of the existing 110 kV transmission line from SS Valandovo to SS Strumica 2 and SS Strumica 1. This will enable the connection of 1.2 GW of renewable energy sources and increase the reliability of electricity supply in the region.
The project amounts to EUR 34.7 million. In addition to the EBRD loan, the Western Balkans Investment Fund (WBIF) provided a EUR 7.6 million grant, and the Climate Investment Fund (CIF) contributed a EUR 0.5 million grant. Euro Ambassador David Geer and Minister of Energy Sanja Bozhinovska attended the signing.
